[TRAVEL] Family Staycation at Mandarin Orchard Hotel (30-31 Jan 2021)

Following a very successful Christmas family staycation at Hilton Hotel last year, we were raring to go for our next staycay together!

It was opportune that Mandarin Orchard was having a very fabulous promotion for frontline workers. Hence, without much hesitation, we booked 4 rooms at one go! The package included breakfast and was only at $118 nett per room! #thanksmandarinorchard

The details of the promotion are found below:
We arrived at Mandarin Orchard about 9.15am to check-in and to my surprise, the rooms were in fact already tidied up but subjected to the final check by the housekeeping supervisor. So we would have been able to enter our rooms if we could probably stay for another 15 mins more. However, we were supposed to go for the museum tour at 10am, so we needed to make our way there be leaving at 9.30am. The hotel staff then offered to help place our bags to our rooms and we could collect the room access cards when we returned to the hotel. A SMS confirmation would be sent once the rooms were ready.

We got back to the hotel at about 1pm after our lunch at Margaret Drive Chicken Rice at Holland Road. Our rooms were located at 30th floor and adjacent to each other and 2 rooms were connecting rooms! The bed and pillows were comfy, power points were plenty and TV channels were available with a good range of genres too. Coffee and (TWG) teas were in sachets and complimentary. There were no complimentary drinks inside the fridge.
The room was well-lit and because of the high floor, the view was absolutely breathtaking with almost a full view of the Orchard belt. The bathroom was sufficiently sized with a sink, toilet bowl, shower area and bathtub.
Surprisingly, the in-room dining menu was at 30% discount and since we felt peckish at around 9.30pm, we decided to order the club sandwich set at $23.05 after discount. With our rounder tummies, it certainly has a sleep-inducing effect on us. ZZzzz....
We woke up at about 6.45am and got ready by 7.15am so that we could go for our morning swim! **Just a note to all readers that you should book the pool timing with the hotel concierge as soon as you finalised your booking because the capacity and timeslots were very limited.

After the swim, it was already 8.30am and Triple Three Restaurant was already packed with breakfast diners and we were diverted to Chatterbox instead. There was quite a queue but soon enough (about 10-15 mins), we finally got a table. The menu items were rather limited with 4 types of food options, namely American breakfast, Nasi Goreng (Malay Fried Rice Set), Wanton Noodles (Dry or Soup) and Congee (Chicken or Pork). Fruits, breads, pastries and beverages were available too. **Do note that you could order more than one portion of food.

My personal favourite was the dry wanton noodles because the noodles were very tasty without the obvious sight of sambal or soya sauce, chicken shreds were apparently from the actual chicken that was used to serve their famous chicken rice, wantons had whole shrimps in it and the soup broth was very flavourful as we could imagine that it was boiled for hours with all the essence of the chicken inside it.
In summary, this deal which we snagged at Mandarin Orchard was certainly value for money! The close proximity to key places like Somerset 313, Takashimaya and Paragon was unparalleled. The room is rather old school but was compensated by the comfort level of a good night's sleep! The hotel staff were very warm to all of us and welcoming which gave us a nice homely feel~
