The Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM) had always been on our to-do list for the longest time and finally, we had the chance to visit this museum!
LKCNHM is located in NUS campus (opp Engineering school). It is a 7-storey green building with 8,500 sqm of space and home to 560,000 catalogued items, with over a million specimens throughout the region.
The building facade looked very futuristic and the exhibition was absolutely awesome! The theme was about biodiversity and it covered a large range biological organisms from the cellular level, fungi, arthropods, land animals to the whale skeleton specimen, which got stranded on Singapore's shore several years ago due to a huge gash on her back.
I think the key highlights of this museum would be the dinosaur fossils and the sightings of our past colonial governors with the likes of Raffles, Farquhar and Wallace. The Brachiosaurus skeleton was gigantic and majestic, which fascinated the children a lot. There were also specimen displays discovered by well-known British figures of the past from their local sightings and regional voyages within the Malayan Peninsular. Thereafter, they would document their observations of the animals and insects and send to the Royal Society for official classification.
