[EAT] Saboten Lunch at Millennia Walk (23 Jan 2021)

Lunch today was at Millennia Walk's Saboten Restaurant specialising in their deep fried items like Tonkatsu, Torikatsu, Ebi Fry, Crab Cream Croquette and Oyster Katsu. Of course, there were also combo sets and dons too!

Each set comes with free flow miso soup, rice, salad and a serving of matcha ice-cream.

Personally, the combo set gave us quite a good experience with their different offerings and to be honest, they were just average and expected for restaurants at this price range. The pork loin was deep fried to perfection and the meat was succulent and not greasy. Crab cream croquette was something special but not a wow and I wasn't a big fan of Ebi Fry as they tended to taste fresh but oily. Regardless, there were 2 main highlights in my opinion- oyster katsu and matcha ice-cream!

This oyster katsu was a bomb to the palate! First bite was the extremely crispy outer layer, followed by the first chew which opened the gates to the freshness of the sea and the subsequent taste and texture of the oyster were just nothing short of excellent!
For those matcha lovers out there, you are in for a treat! This single scoop was just the perfect complement to end the meal~ The matcha taste was a superb pairing to the savoury flavour of the earlier items. The ice-cream was silky and the sweetness hit the right spot for me. Thumbs up!

Saboten serves a good variety of Japanese fried food and the salad with sesame cream, rice and miso soup were free flow and yet, tasty to begin with. Mind you, we almost finished the entire bottle of sesame dressing! But for me, there wasn't any wow factor except for the oyster and matcha ice-cream but I guess the taste was kind of neutralised by the final bill. Good for occasional eats but I won't be visiting Saboten too soon!
